This one made me cry

Kathy at Beyond Words posted a rant against soundbites. Her rant was born when she saw the 10 minutes of video surrounding the 10 seconds of video we've all seen of Dr. Jeremiah Wright.

JR Woodard, and his post, Finding Truth in a Soundbite Society.

You owe it to yourself and Dr. Wright to give 10 minutes to this video.

I don't get out much when it comes to watching the media, so I hadn't seen or heard the controversial short clips, but the ten minute version made me want to hear the rest of his sermon. It is grievous and far reachingly wrong when things are taken out of context to prove a point. Thank you for linking to this.

I haven't heard the exact sound bite, but I have heard a lot that the comments were bad. If the bad soundbite was in that 10 minute clip, I'm wondering what the fuss is about.

The media thrives on controversy. You know that story recently on teachers here in Columbus? The one teacher 'exposed' for his sin was at Worthington Christian school. The Dispatch never contacted the teacher or the school about it except to hand them the already finished story and say they were going to print in a matter of hours.

Never mind that the situation had already been exposed to the school and church, that it had happened years ago, that he had been removed immediately from the students for a time and that he had only been allowed back with the children after a period of repentance and forgiveness by the elders of the church. His exposure to the children was supervised and under more strict conditions than anyone else. It was a one time thing, years ago and it had been handled publicly, swiftly and thoroughly.

But the paper smelled a controversy and sales. So they 'exposed' him. Now his career is over and all the good work of a church to restore a sinner is swept away. But they sold more papers.

For that reason, I don't watch or listen to the news much. I skim the Sunday paper and I listen to NPR to and from work. Mainstream news? No way. Nothing you read or hear there has anything to do with the truth, it's all about the ratings and sales.

Thanks for the tip, Kev. This was worth more than the 10 minutes. I love the internet - no longer trapped by what "they" feed me, I should make more effort to check the sources. :)

BTW, I like what Rev. Wright was preaching. I'm going to look into him more. If this is an example of the spiritual guidance Sen. Obama is getting, I'm impressed.

I have no real words after watching the video. I've said many of the same things that he said.
