How well Job stood, and how he finally fell, are both wonderfully helpful stories. I'm with you. They're very encouraging.

Thanks for your kind visit.Kevin Knoxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16788817477327510023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20104292.post-14542846976774710982007-09-22T19:00:00.000-04:002007-09-22T19:00:00.000-04:00I agree about the Prayer of Job vs. the Prayer of ...I agree about the Prayer of Job vs. the Prayer of Jabez! Job is one of my favorite books right now. I love his honesty, to his friends, to God, his honesty in repentance (rather than self-defense when faced with God's questions as a response to his own). Most of all I love how deeply he trusted God, even when his theology and accusations, demands even, were not accurate, he trusted God enough to challenge and to ask and to accept what God said. I've been rereading the book of Job lately, just the parts where Job talks, consecutively. I know it breaks up the flow, but on the other hand, it really gives the feel of Job's anguish, honesty and trust, even though he sometimes contradicted himself, even though he was unreasonable, etc. He really trusted God. And that is how I want to be.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20104292.post-8672402622464162812007-05-28T19:17:00.000-04:002007-05-28T19:17:00.000-04:00I guess those painful thorns protect those beautif...I guess those painful thorns protect those beautiful roses ... maybe there is something to that? I've spent most of my time (until the last few years) in cessationist churches, who were good at the theology of suffering, but had no concept that God might ever do anything *unusual* (except, apparently in 3rd world countries) More recently I've had charismatic friends who seem to want to 'name and claim' anything that isn't nailed down. For some of them faith seems to have more to do with a denial of reality than the reality of Jesus.
Me? I'm darned if I understand why I see miracles happen this time and not that time, why this person suffers so much and that person has all their prayers answered, why God insists on taking me on this journey that turns me inside out and upside down.
But I do know He is still God (and I am not) and one day this crazy, glorious heartbreaking world will all make sense in Him. Wow....Especially a charismatic with your testimony. Wow. Praise the Lord for the things He has done in your life. Your story is always front and center in my mind when I write on this topic. You force me to remember to allow room for God to work physically.

I don't always repeat this, but I grew up in the Assemblies of God world. I grew up believing that God always healed, and always did so miraculously. And when He didn't, I was always at a loss to explain His failure. Dealing with God's failures has to be one of the hardest things about my time on this planet.

I still have to write about this stuff to keep my fingers wrapped around the Truth. Jesus never fails, and when we are not healed, or the divorce happens anyway, or the child stays sick, it does not mean we've failed. It means the war against sin is a fight, and God fights in ways as far above us as Andromeda is above the endless sand of our deserts.Kevin Knoxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16788817477327510023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20104292.post-1814582465403437862007-05-26T09:13:00.000-04:002007-05-26T09:13:00.000-04:00"Sometimes His kingdom comes in glorious deliveran..."Sometimes His kingdom comes in glorious deliverance from circumstance, and sometimes it comes in glorious love seeing us through circumstance."

Maybe it is all a matter of focus. Lately I have been considering my ankles - how they really limit my activity. I have been wondering if the pain is a thorn in my flesh. I wonder if I need to be embracing the thorn rather than fighting it so much - hard for a healing-pray-er Charismatic to come to grips with :)kc bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17440862813109808755noreply@blogger.com
